On selected Philips TVs there is a solution called Ambilight, which lights up the wall behind the TV, which can increase the viewing experience by the light in the room and around the screen reflecting what you are watching.
But what if you do not have a Philips TV, but still want Ambilight functionality? Then you can get yourself Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box instead. This is a small black box with five HDMI connectors that can deliver an Ambilight-like experience to your TV or PC screen.
Now Philips has launched a new accessory for this box, Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip, which is a light strip that can be attached to the back of the TV and light up and flash according to the content you are watching.
While the regular Hue series light stripe can display millions of colors, it can only display one at a time. However, the new Gradient Lightstrip can display up to seven different colors simultaneously, hence gradient-term.
To be able to use the light strip, you must have a Hue Bridge for just under 500 kroner and a Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, which costs approximately 2400 kroner.
Philips Hue Play gradient lightstrip comes in three different lengths depending on the size of your TV.
55-inch (55 to 60 inches) –1989 NOK
65- inches (65 to 70 inches) – 2219 NOK
75-inch (75 to 85 inches) – 2549 NOK
Sales start on October 6, according to a press release.
