On Wednesday, July 15, shortly after 2.00, the employees of the Riga Municipal Police Video Surveillance Center in Old Riga noticed a woman sitting on the street under the influence of alcohol. As it was suspected that the woman might ride a bicycle, the nearest car patrol was sent to the scene. While the crew was on the road, the young woman really got on the bike and tried to ride, but due to intoxication, she was unable to control her vehicle and fell several times.
A moment later, the crew arrived at the scene, and the drunk driver was stopped. During the conversation, the woman admitted that she had used alcohol before. At the same time, she explained that she initially wanted to push the bicycle home, but then realized that it would take about an hour on the way, while she estimated that she would get home in less than 40 minutes by bicycle.
When the police were convinced that the offender had not been injured in the falls and would not need medical assistance, State Police officers were summoned to the scene, who continued to work with the 23-year-old offender.
Riga Municipal Police reminds that in addition to motor vehicles, it is also forbidden to drive bicycles under the influence of alcohol. When driving under the influence of a bicycle, it is possible to get to resuscitation faster than at home.
