[3日 ロイター] – US Vice President Harris on the 3rd clearly criticized Israel for not adequately addressing the “humanitarian catastrophe” in the Palestinian autonomous region of Gaza.

In a speech in Selma, Alabama, he called for an immediate ceasefire and appealed to the Islamic group Hamas to accept an offer to release hostages in exchange for a six-week cessation of fighting.

At the same time, he stated, “The people of Gaza are starving. The situation is inhumane.” “The Israeli government must redouble its efforts to significantly increase the flow of aid supplies. There can be no excuses.” He also called for new checkpoints to be opened and for “unnecessary restrictions” to be placed on the entry of goods.

Harris’ comments reflect frustration within the government over the Gaza conflict, as President Biden faces a backlash from left-leaning voters as he seeks re-election.

Harris is scheduled to meet former Defense Minister Gantz, a member of Israel’s wartime cabinet, at the White House on the 4th, and is expected to deliver a frank message.
