Israeli Tanks Open Fire on Gaza Aid Seekers, Killing Dozens
A harrowing incident in Gaza saw Israeli tanks firing on a crowd desperately seeking food from aid trucks, resulting in a high number of fatalities. This marks one of the most devastating episodes in the ongoing conflict, exacerbating the dire humanitarian crisis facing residents.
Deadly Encounter in Khan Younis
On Tuesday, in Khan Younis, Israeli tanks discharged shells into a gathering of people hoping to get aid. According to medical personnel, the attack claimed the lives of at least fifty-nine people. The Israeli military, currently at war with Hamas in Gaza since October 2023, acknowledged its presence and stated it’s looking into the event.
Witnesses told Reuters that the tanks launched shells at a multitude of individuals. These people were assembled on the primary eastern road through Khan Younis. They were anticipating aid trucks that use the route. The area became a scene of chaos and immense suffering.
“All of a sudden, they let us move forward and made everyone gather, and then shells started falling, tank shells,”

The World Food Programme estimates that around 1.1 million people in Gaza are experiencing “catastrophic hunger” (World Food Programme 2024).
Dire Conditions at Nasser Hospital
At Nasser Hospital, wounded people filled floors and corridors. Space was limited due to the influx of casualties. Many victims were sprawled across the area. Alaa, who was interviewed at the hospital, highlighted the desperation.
“No one is looking at these people with mercy. The people are dying, they are being torn apart, to get food for their children. Look at these people, all these people are torn to get flour to feed their children.”
Ongoing Conflict
The incident underscores the desperate conditions and increasing violence in Gaza. Residents are struggling to survive as they grapple with a lack of food. The situation is further compounded by the ongoing conflict.
