Verstappen about on-board radio during engine problems: “What a f * cking joke this!”

Max Verstappen experienced engine problems after the restart during the Italian Grand Prix. Together with his engineer, he tried everything to fix this while driving, but was unsuccessful. On the on-board radio you can clearly hear how frustrated Verstappen was.

Verstappen started the Italian Grand Prix from fifth place, but fell further back into midfield after a bad start. Then Charles Leclerc crashed halfway through the race, the race was temporarily halted and later restarted. From that moment on, disaster really struck for Verstappen, who by that time had already fallen further back to the back of the field. At the restart, the Red Bull driver had to deal with engine problems. Together with his engineer he tried to save the engine with various settings, but it turned out to be in vain. On lap 30, Verstappen was called in and had to withdraw from the race.

Immediately at the restart, Verstappen contacted his engineer about the on-board radio. “Ah, this f * cking bike is hard man, what a joke !!” he screamed in frustration. His engineer immediately tried to look for solutions and asked Verstappen to change some settings. “Mode 6”, was the first short clue. Apparently it had no effect, because Verstappen soon came back on the radio: “It is still not going well, what do you want me to do?” He was told that he should leave the settings as it is for the time being.

Then the engineer did not hear from him again, and that led to even more frustration at Verstappen. “Um buddy, what can I do?” He asked again. “Wait a minute Max, I’ll be right back to you”, was the answer. Shortly afterwards the Limburger was told that he had to change his engine position to 13, position 9. This did not help either, because a little later his engineer changed the advice: “Engine position 1, position 7, I repeat: engine position 1, position 7 . ”

Verstappen tried with that engine position for a while, but it didn’t help. “It is still broken,” said the 22-year-old driver. “Standby Max, I have an answer for you”, his engineer said, who then came up with some bad news: “Box Max, please confirm this, box, box!” Verstappen answered the call and was then told to turn off his engine, something he was not happy about: “Ah, what a f * cking joke this!”
