Searching families reinstall “Wall of memory” placed in front of former FGR headquarters

Mexico City. Members of the Traces of Memory Collective and groups of relatives searching for missing persons in Mexico and Central America reinstalled the “Wall of Memory” that was placed in front of what were until last December the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) , on the side of the Insurgentes Glorieta.

Although the original memorial – in which tiles had been placed – with photographs and legends related to the disappearance of dozens of people missing in the country and which included the 43 normalistas of Ayotzinapa was destroyed, members of non-governmental organizations They took on the task of placing images with data of people who have not been located.

The members of the Huellas de la memoria collective announced that the “Wall of Memory” was destroyed on Thursday by FGR personnel.

The “Wall of Memory” began to be placed on January 20, 2020, on Insurgentes Avenue in front of what was the headquarters of the FGR.

“In it there were 12 footprints and faces in mosaics that contained the story of disappearance and the tireless struggle of the families to find them alive for months. Afterwards the memory actions multiplied with dozens and hundreds of faces and footprints that filled the wall in these more than four years, gaining the respect of families and supportive people, consolidating itself as a memory of the city and the country,” said the members of the Huellas de la Memoria Collective.

During the act of restitution of the memorial, the activists pointed out: “what the FGR destroyed is a place of memory, meeting, meeting and consolation for families. By hiding and erasing the more than 115 thousand disappeared, in electoral times, they will not solve the serious human rights crisis, but rather it will continue to worsen.

To clarify what happened and identify who destroyed the memorial, the activists demand that the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic “hand over the videos from the security cameras and the government of Mexico City hand over the images from C5 that correspond to the events of these last few weeks.”
