People’s Deputy from “Voice” Yulia Klimenko said that the health situation of Saakashvili, who has been starving for over a month, – critical.
Klimenko called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky to intensify efforts to free Saakashvili. “I would like this issue to be on the agenda of Ukraine,” she said.
The representative of the “Servant of the People” and Saakashvili’s beloved Elizaveta Yasko noted that last week she had seen him three times.
“Every time we saw each other, his state of health was getting worse. We are seriously concerned about the state of his health and medical assistance, which is now not provided, despite the statements of the Ukrainian and Georgian ombudsmen. […] It is a great shame that President Saakashvili is now in prison in Georgia and he is not provided with proper legal and medical assistance and his rights are violated every day. […] His life is in danger, “Yasko said.
She stated that in October there was a record number of deportations and refusals to enter Georgia for Ukrainians.
“This is not a friendly step on the part of Georgia. We need to deal with this, because we consider Georgia a friendly country, but such steps are not friendly,” she stressed.
Yasko said that now the People’s Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada are collecting signatures for a statement-appeal regarding the state of Saakashvili. The people’s deputy from “Batkivshchyna” Vladimir Kabachenko said that the appeal of the people’s deputies was addressed to the president, prime minister and parliament of Georgia. In it, Ukrainian people’s deputies demand that Saakashvili be returned to Ukraine.
The People’s Deputy from the “Servant of the People” Elizaveta Bogutskaya called on Saakashvili to end the hunger strike.
Saakashvili served as President of Georgia for two consecutive terms – in 2004-2013. Shortly after leaving the presidency, he left the country.
In 2015-2016, Saakashvili headed the Odessa Regional State Administration. He received Ukrainian citizenship in May 2015, and in July 2017 lost it… In May 2019, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky returned Ukrainian citizenship to Saakashvili… Since June 2020, Saakashvili has been in office Head of the Executive Committee of Reforms of Ukraine.
In Georgia, Saakashvili was sentenced to three years in prison for pardoning former Interior Ministry officers convicted of the murder of Sandro Girgvliani, an employee of the United Bank of Georgia. He received another six years in the case of beating up politician Valery Gelashvili. Several more cases are being investigated against Saakashvili in Georgia, including the dispersal of a protest in November 2007.

On October 27, the politician was visited by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova. She said that during the hunger strike, Saakashvili four times there was a crisis state of health, he received blood transfusions twice. Following the visit, Denisova announced a violation of the politician’s rights. Saakashvili refused medical support and is in critical condition, Yasko said on October 29.
