It is the oldest film festival in the world, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. After Pedro Almodóvar’s film “Madres paralelas” at the opening, 20 more works are competing for the Golden Lion for the best film at the Venice Film Festival.
Against the dream backdrop, the best films of recent years were awarded a Golden Lion, from Joker with Joaquin Phoenix to Roma by Alfonso Cuarón or Nomadland by Chloé Zhao.
Festival director Alberto Barbera is still looking forward to another extraordinary festival:
“The difficult conditions in which the films were made, the pandemic, the virus, the security conditions all stimulated the filmmakers’ creativity. And many directors come up with their best films – this festival is likely to be one of the strongest in recent years. “

“THE HAND OF GOD”
Netflix also produces European films such as the latest film by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, “The Hand of God”, in the competition for the Golden Lion in Venice.

“It’s a film produced by Netflix, it couldn’t take part in the competition in Cannes for reasons we know, so we’re glad to have Sorrentino here. He’s been to Venice a couple of times, twice with the series” The Young Pope ” “The Young Pope” and his debut film in 1999. So this is a very welcome return for him too. “
“The Hand of God” is the story of a boy in the turbulent Naples of the 1980s. Sorrentino’s most personal film to date tells of fate and family, sport and cinema, love and loss.
