JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Selection of the type of fuel oil (BBM) for vehicles should be adjusted to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Because, each manufacturer has taken into account the type of fuel in accordance with compression ratio vehicle.
Meanwhile, every kind fuel which is sold in the market has value octane different which could just not match the compression ratio.
It’s just that, not a few vehicle owners who deliberately change the type of gasoline with Research Octane Number ( RON) higher.

The reason is, besides being believed to make engine performance better, it can also make consumption more fuel economical.
Is it true, the assumption that using fuel with a higher octane will be more economical?
Bambang Supriyadi, Executive Coordinator Service Division of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor ( ADM), say, economical or not when the vehicle uses high-octane gasoline depending on the compression ratio.
“This depends on the compression ratio of the engine, if the compression ratio is high using high octane fuel it can save fuel usage,” he told Kompas.com, Sunday (15/11/2020).

However, Bambang added, if the vehicle has a low compression ratio and uses gasoline with high RON, it still cannot be maximized.

“Not much different (the level of fuel consumption), with a low compression ratio, the power produced will be limited and cannot maximize the potential of the fuel used,” he said.
That way, the use of high-octane fuel does not necessarily have an impact on the level of consumption.
But you also have to see the suitability of the vehicle’s compression ratio. If it is fulfilling to consume high octane fuel then it could be more economical.
