Vecās mājas – Legendary Latvian Progressive Rock Group Reunites After 30-Year Break

On February 17 at 7:00 p.m., the legendary Latvian progressive rock group “Vecās mājas”, which returns to the stage after a 30-year break, invites you to a concert at the Culture Center “Ulbrokas pērle”. The concert program of the “Liepājas dzintars ’89” festival will be performed in full at the group’s reunion concert: the compositions “Kurzeme”, “Ai, zeme, kūpoša”, “Par vádás”, “Uz páuš”, “Dedication” and other compositions created during the group’s activity. In honor of this event, “Vecās mājas” has reunited in the golden core, in which since 1989 Uģis Prauliņš (voice, keyboards), Armands Alksnis (guitar), Andris Alviķis (bass guitar) and Tālis Gžibovskis (percussion instruments) have been playing together.

This happened in honor of the band’s first album, which collects recordings made between 1989 and 1992, and which was released on vinyl in September 2023. Uģ Prauliņš’s elaborate, technically complex compositions with the poetry of Latvian classics reflect the ideals of the composer’s own youth and references to the samples of the Western progressive rock group “Jethro Tull”, “King Crimson”, “Yes” and “Genesis” of the 70s of the 20th century.
