Mark van Bommel would like to work in the Bundesliga. That let the coach who was fired at PSV late last year hint on Wednesday in the first interview since his forced departure.
“The Bundesliga has always fascinated me, as a coach, as a player and as a child. I remember how I ran home after my game on Saturday to go to the Bundesliga at Sportschau “says Van Bommel on Wednesday Bild.
As a midfielder, Van Bommel played for Bayern Munich from 2006 to 2011, winning twice the double. When Bayern coach Niko Kovac was fired in November, Van Bommel’s name was on a list of candidate successors in various German media.
However, ‘Der Rekordmeister’ appointed Hansi Flick as interim manager until the end of the season. Under the former assistant, Bayern is now at the top of the Bundesliga, increasing the call for him to be the head coach next season.

Van Bommel reflects as Guardiola as a trainer
“I thought it was a very nice compliment that my name was mentioned at Bayern,” says 42-year-old Van Bommel. “The club has noticed that with PSV I had an idea how to play football.”
“My playing plan is offensive, I want to dominate half the opponent. If you lose the ball once, you have to get it back as quickly as possible. Then the opponent is not organized and you often get a chance.”
“Josep Guardiola has perfected that game with his teams,” says Van Bommel about former coach of Bayern, among others, who now works at Manchester City.
“Robben and Ribéry could have helped young PSV team”
Van Bommel only made a brief statement about his forced departure from PSV. “We played well, but did not score points. It is difficult for a young group of players to deal with that. Ultimately, as a trainer, you get the consequences of the lack of results.”
Van Bommel would have liked to have experienced former Bayern players in the PSV selection in the summer. “I wanted to get Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry to Eindhoven. The two experienced world stars could have helped the young team with their quality and exemplary function.”
Robben ignored PSV’s offer and ended his career, Ribéry opted for the Italian company Fiorentina.
