US is furious, this neighbor of Indonesia is threatened with sanctions

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The United States (US) strongly condemns Indonesia’s neighbors in ASEAN, Myanmar. This happened after the massacre carried out on residents of one village, on Christmas Eve (24/12/2021).

The country of President Joe Biden asked for an arms embargo on Myanmar. Targeting innocent people is unacceptable, cruel and must be held accountable.

“The international community must do more,” said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken AFP, Wednesday (12/29/2021).

“To prevent a repeat of atrocities in Myanmar, including by ending the sale of weapons and dual-use technology to the military.”

This is not the first time the US has called for sanctions. Previously, Uncle Sam had also punished the military by limiting the purchase of weapons, due to the massacre of the Rohingya ethnic minority.

It is known that at least three countries are the main suppliers of weapons to Myanmar. Namely China, Russia and India.

Earlier, local Myanmar media reported that the junta massacred residents of a village in Hpruso township, in Bagan Kayah state. Photos over the weekend showed several charred trucks and a charred parked car with the remains inside.

quote AFP, at least 35 civilians were killed. They were previously shot by the military to death and then their bodies were burned.

The victims are said to be refugees, consisting of women and children. Among the victims were two members of the non-profit organization, Save the Children.

The United Nations has previously made the same criticism. The agency also demands a thorough and transparent investigation.

“I condemn this sad incident and all attacks on civilians across the country,” UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Myanmar’s junta said its troops had been attacked in Hpruso. This comes after the military attempted to stop seven cars driving in a “suspicious manner”.

“The troops have killed a number of people in the ensuing clashes,” said spokesman Zaw Min Tun.
