US COVID-19 Death Rate Equals Spanish Flu Pandemic Victims

Liputan6.com, New York COVID-19 has now killed thousands of people United States of America. The number is the same as the victims of the pandemic spanish flu in the US in 1918-1919, totaling about 675,000.

The US population a century ago was only a third of the population today, which means the flu cuts across a much larger and more deadly swath across the country.

Like the Spanish flu, the Corona Virus may never completely disappear from our midst. Instead, scientists expect it to be a mild seasonal attack as human immunity is strengthened through vaccination and repeated infections. It can take time. Thus quoted from the page AP News, Tuesday (21/9/2021).

“We expect it to be like a cold, but there are no guarantees,” said Emory University biologist Rustom Antia, who suggested an optimistic scenario in which this could happen over several years.

For now, the COVID-19 pandemic is still making United States of America and the rest of the world is having a hard time.

While the surge in infections triggered by the Delta Variant may have peaked, US deaths are averaging more than 1,900 a day, the highest level since early March 2021.

The country’s overall toll stood at 675,000 as of Monday, according to a Johns Hopkins University tally, although the actual toll is believed to be higher.

Winter could bring a new wave, with the influential University of Washington model projecting 100,000 or more Americans will die from COVID-19 by January 1, 2022, which would take the overall toll United States of America to 776,000.

The 1918-19 influenza pandemic killed 50 million people globally at a time when the world had a quarter of the population it is today.

The global death toll from COVID-19 now stands at more than 4.6 million.
