Uproar about Rp1,000 Palm Oil Coins Sold for Rp300 Million, Bank Indonesia Opens Votes

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TVRecently, the social media timeline was shocked by uploads showing Rp1,000 coins with a picture of palm oil.

How come? The two-colored notes are sold at marketplace worth hundreds of millions of rupiah.

The upload shows at least 13 coins available for purchase at a price of almost Rp. 300 million.

Please note, the money is in a used condition from various regions in Indonesia.

Responding to the sale of palm oil money, Junanto Herdaiwan, Director of the Communications Department of Bank Indonesia opened his voice.

Junanto explained that the Rp1,000 coin depicted with palm oil is still valid today.

So the value of the money is in accordance with what is stated in the money.

“The Rp1,000 note issued in 1993 with a picture of palm oil is still valid as a legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia as long as it has not been revoked/withdrawn from circulation,” he said. Kompas.com, Friday (13/08/2021).

Bank Indonesia does not conduct the sale and purchase of the money, but performs a money exchange service that is no longer valid because it has been revoked or its circulation withdrawn with the same value.
