Matteo Falcinelli: “I am moved by the support, now justice”. Tajani: “Arrest known since February. But I only saw the images two days ago”

“I am moved by the support I am receiving in these hours, in which many are writing to me, including Italian citizens here in the United States. Now I want justice”. He speaks from Miami Matteo Falcinelli in the words entrusted to the mother Vlasta Studenicova and reported to Ansa.

“We will also report the officers for official forgery, as well as for the crimes of mistreatment, abuse of power and excessive use of force by the police”, the mother now announces. In addition to the mistreatment, the “torture” as Studenicova says, what doesn’t add up is the report drawn up by the Miami agents which does not coincide exactly with what is seen and heard in the bodycam footage.

In the middle of the week the Italian lawyer, Francesco Maresca, should present himself at the offices in Piazzale Clodio in Rome, where he could formalize the complaint and probably solicit the Capitoline Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor will then evaluate, based on the elements provided to him, the formal opening of a case. The general prosecutor’s office of Perugia, which is following the case, could enter the field: the office led by Sergio Sottani intends to verify whether what happened has been reported in some way to the Umbrian magistrates.

The arrest has been known since February

The brutal arrest of Falcinelli in Miami he was in fact also known to Italy since last February. Immediately therefore, given that the student from Spoleto in Florida who was studying was stopped outside a strip club at the end of that month, on the night between the 24th and 25th. And, according to the Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, “the Italian consulate in the USA has dealt with it from day one”. What no one claims to have seen until a few days ago are the images of that arrest, those filmed by the officers’ bodycams and which seem to disprove several points of their version. “I only saw them the day before yesterday”, therefore on Saturday 4 May, when the national newspaper published them first, Tajani again told La7.

The gory images

The arrest “is an image that I would never have wanted to see, I spoke at length with the mother yesterday afternoon, I told her that those images touched me deeply: I too am a father and I imagine what she felt. Then ensured all the commitment on the part of the Italian Consulate in Miami, which also Mrs Vlasta Studenicova he recognized and thanked,” added Tajani.

The boy’s father, Fulvio Falcinellihowever, did not want to comment on the matter: “The embassy and consulate are dealing with it”, he confirmed only when reached by phone.

Falcinelli’s mother instead added: “I absolutely trust in the government and the institutions to obtain justice for Matteo, not condemning the United States in general but those directly responsible”.

Tajani: against the identification number

Managers who, if they were in Italy, according to Tajani, should not have identification numbers either on their helmets or on their uniforms because otherwise, the minister claims, “it then seems to me like I am opening the hunt for the policeman, the carabiniere, the financier. The rules of engagement – added the minister – are completely different in the United States and in Italy, so I am absolutely against this”.
