1. Gurun Namib, Namibia
The vast desert in Namibia looks a lot like Mars. NASA actually sent scientists there to study it.
In 2010, researchers went into the desert to look for microscopic life that could survive under rocks. In certain types of quartz rocks called hypoliths they can hold water vapor from mist and can be translucent, allowing some light to pass through.
2. Danakil Depression

Danakil Depression is a desert area in northern Ethiopia, Africa. What makes this area interesting is its status as the hottest area on earth.
Danakil is also one of the lowest points on earth. The height of Danakil is 125 meters below sea level. The lowest was named Dallol.
The desert area in the Afra region consists of colorful soil and rocks. The colors produced by this desert come from sulfur, sulphur, minerals and salt in the rocks.
3. Lake Baikal, Siberia
Deep in Siberia is Lake Baikal, whose area is larger than Belgium. This lake has more water than America’s Great Lakes.
Because it is so remote, many of its plants and animals are not found anywhere else in the world. This is where scientists study evolution.
Lake Baikal is frozen for at least four months of the year. The lake water is so clean that it forms bluish colored ice.
4. Laguna Colorada

The name Laguna Colorada is one of the interesting destinations on the border of Bolivia and Chile. Located right in the Andean Eduardo Avaroa National Nature Reserve, Potosi Department, this lake is a target for photographers.
As spotted by detikcom from various sources, Thursday (1/8/2019) Laguna Coloroda is interesting because it looks different. You see, Laguna Colorada is a lake located at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level.
Located at high altitude, Laguna Colorada is not an ordinary lake. Laguna Colorada is a lake that contains quite high levels of salt minerals. Due to the high salt content, this lagoon also produces borax in the water.
Because it also contains salt minerals, Laguna Colorada has several varieties of algae in abundance. Due to the excessive abundance of algae, aka blooming, this salt lake has a red face like a pool of blood.
Because of the high variety of algae, this salt lake contains a lot of planton. This makes Laguna Colorada a habitat for flamingos. The area of Laguna Colorada reaches 60 square km. However, the water level is quite shallow.
5. Lake Natron
Lake Natron is near a volcano called Ol Doinyo Lengai. The location, from the capital of Tanzania, Dodoma, can be reached in around 9 hours. The exact location is in the north of Tanzania near the Kenyan border.
What is strange and magical is that Lake Natron can make passing animals petrified. Many birds died around the lake in a gray, hardened condition. They accidentally entered the lake and were petrified, so it is called hell.
According to research, the natron in the name of the lake is salt water which has a pH of up to 10.5. This means that the lake water can burn animal skin and eyes. Apart from that, the water is also mixed with toxic ash from the surrounding volcanoes. The water temperature can reach 100 degrees Celsius.
6. Oymyakon

Oymykon is in the eastern part of Russia, in the state of Sakha with the capital Yakutia. The location is around 750 meters above sea level and is famous for its extreme cold weather!
Oymyakon is said to be the coldest place on Earth inhabited by humans. The average temperature there reaches minus tens of degrees Celsius. The peak is around December to January, with minus 50 degrees Celsius.
This extreme weather is similar to that on Mars. This is the reason why Omyakon is often used as a training ground for adaptation before going to Mars.
