Unrest at Blocked Polish Border: Protesters and Police Stop Buses, Minister Condemns Actions as Unacceptable

“Unpleasant news has been received from the blocked Polish border. Protesters and police are stopping buses traveling to and from Poland. Passengers are being stopped without any explanation. We emphasize that such actions are unacceptable against Ukrainian citizens,” the minister noted.

According to him, during the war, the buses are mostly women with small children, socially vulnerable residents, military personnel.

The minister emphasized that the attempt to make these people hostages of protest is inconsistent with the civilized world.

On March 9, Polish farmers could not reach an agreement with the government and will continue their protests, the Polish portal “Polsatnews” reports after a meeting between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the leaders of the farmers’ movement.

As Andrzej Sobocińskis, a representative of farmers, told journalists, during the meeting, the Prime Minister announced that he does not plan to completely close the border for imported food, but only to organize the export of surplus grain in order to stabilize the market. Farmers are not satisfied with such an offer. They believe that opening the border will put these surplus crops back on the market.

Tusk was also unable to satisfy another important demand of farmers regarding the easing of the European Union’s (EU) so-called Green Deal environmental regulation. The Prime Minister promised to continue negotiations with the European Commission on the issue, so the farmers promised to “watch the Prime Minister on his toes”.
