Ayodhya (UP) – Senior BJP leaders LK Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi are unlikely to participate in the consecration ceremony of the newly constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya next month, the temple trust said. “Both are elders in the family. They requested not to come considering their health and age, which both agreed to,” Ramkshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai told reporters. LK Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi were the leaders who were in the forefront of the agitation for the Ram Temple.

Rai said preparations for the dedication ceremony on January 22, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are in progress. Giving a detailed list of invitees, Rai said Advani and Joshi were not attending the function due to health and age reasons. Advani is now 96 and Joshi will turn 90 next month. Rai said a three-member team has been deputed to visit former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and invite him to the function.

He added that preparations would be completed by January 15 and the puja for Pran Pratishtha would begin on January 16 and continue till January 22. Shankaracharyas of six darshans (ancient schools) and around 150 monks will participate in the function. Around 4,000 priests and 2,200 other guests have been invited to the function, he added. Representatives of major temples like Kashi Vishwanath and Vaishnodevi and representatives of religious and constitutional institutions have also been invited.

Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama, Mata Amritanandamayi from Kerala, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Movie Stars Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Arun Govil, Film Director Madhur Bhandarkar, Industrialists Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Famous Painter Vasudev Kamath, ISRO Director Nilesh Desai and many others. Rai said that prominent people have also been invited to the function.

After the consecration ceremonies, ‘Mandala Pooja’ will be performed for 48 days from January 24. He added that the temple will be opened for devotees on January 23. Rai said that arrangements have been made for the guests to stay at more than three places in Ayodhya. Apart from this, 600 rooms have been made available by various maths, temples and households.

Ayodhya Municipal Corporation officials also informed that the preparations for the dedication ceremony have started. Municipal Commissioner Vishal Singh said that fiber toilets will be installed for devotees and changing rooms for women. He said that a ‘Ram Katha Kunj’ corridor will be constructed in the Ramjanmabhoomi complex, displaying tableaus depicting 108 incidents from the life of Ram.
