200 Ukrainians and Russians gathered for a protest anti-war rally in downtown Burgas and booed Putin under the Soviet Army monument.

The site of the protest was not chosen by chance, as it is the monument to Alyosha, erected in 1992 in honor of the Soviet Army. The day before, the monument dawned with the inscription “Putin is a murderer”, and immediately afterwards in Burgas there was talk again about its removal.

Protesters raised angry anti-war posters and caricatures of the Russian leader amid yellow and blue flags.

Ukrainians predominated, but there were Russians among them who opposed the war. A poster reading “I, a Russian citizen, declare: Putin is a murderer and a war criminal” stood out at the rally.

The swearing of Ukrainian sailors who died under Russian shelling on Snake Island with the words “Russian ship, fuck off!”, Which was raised on a poster by protesters, is also gaining popularity.

Many Russians also expressed solidarity with the Ukrainians, and Burgas public figures also spoke out against the war.

Protesters marched on the city’s main street and stole applause from passers-by.
