Ukraine, Oligarchs | The captain of a Russian luxury yacht wants to go – denied fuel:

Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine a few weeks ago, rich Russians and the Russian state have been sanctioned, ot. In Norway, there has been great focus on the Russian yachts that are in our waters.

Among them is the former KGB officer Vladimir Strzhalkovsky’s “Ragnar”, who was also acted against by the police while it was at the quay in Narvik.

NRK has been in contact with the captain of the boat who expresses a desire to leave Narvik. It’s just a not so small problem that prevents them from doing so.

– We want to leave Narvik. We wanted to travel last week, but no suppliers will sell us fuel, so now we are blocked here, Captain Rob Lancaster tells NRK.

Not sanctioned

Many Russian oligarchs have been sanctioned by the EU since the start of the war in an attempt to hit the Russian economy and politics. But the owner of the yacht in Narvik is not on any sanctions list yet. Nevertheless, the various players in Narvik refuse to supply fuel.

– The local suppliers only say that they will not offer it to us. We explain that we are not on the sanctions list, that we are sailing under the Malta flag and that we are not a Russian crew. But no one will listen to us, the captain continues to NRK.

Among other things, both NRK and Forwards Sven Holmlund, general manager of Holmlund oil service in Narvik.

– I have nothing left for the Russians’ conduct in Ukraine. Why should we help them? They can row home. Or use sails, says Holmlund.

Can not seize

Since Norway is not a member of the EU, Norway cannot submit proposals for who should be sanctioned by the EU.

– No channels have been established for third countries such as Norway to promote their own proposals for listing, and the Norwegian authorities have never done this either. The government will work to ensure that Norway also has such a channel, wrote Foreign Minister Annikken Huitfeldt, a response to SV politician Mona Fagerås last Sunday.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is perhaps the most notorious oligarch to be heavily sanctioned. And Abramovich is trying to sell the London club.

Last week, Britain sanctioned these six oligarchs, in addition to Abramovich:

  • Oleg Deripaska, which owns shares in En + Group
  • Igor Setsjin, CEO of Rosneft
  • Andrey Kostin, Chairman of the Board of VTB Bank
  • Alexei Miller, CEO of the energy company Gazprom
  • Nikolai Tokarev, president of the Russian state-owned pipeline company Transneft
  • Dmitri Lebedev, Chairman of the Board of Bank Rossija
