Washington (CNN) – The President of United StatesDonald Trump said Wednesday that Pentagon images showing “unidentified aerial phenomena” are a “spectacle of video“And told Reuters that he wonders” if it’s real. “
Earlier this week, the Pentagon officially released three videos showing what appear to be unidentified flying objects that move quickly while being shot with infrared cameras. In two of the videos, members of the armed forces are heard reacting in amazement at the speed with which objects move. A voice speculates that it could be a drone.
“I wonder if it’s real,” Trump said of the videos. “That is a video show.”
The Navy had recognized in September the veracity of the videos, which had previously been published by a private company. They were officially released this week “to clear up any misconceptions from the public as to whether or not the images that have been circulating were real, or if there are more in the videos,” according to Pentagon spokeswoman Sue Gough.
In 2017, one of the pilots who saw one of the unidentified objects in 2004 told CNN that it was moving in a way that he couldn’t explain.
“As I got closer … it quickly accelerated south and disappeared in less than two seconds,” said retired United States Army pilot David Fravor.
Trump, who has often spread conspiracy theories, is skeptical of UFOs. In an interview with ABC News last year, the president said he had had a meeting on the subject, but that he is skeptical that fast-moving objects are somewhat extraterrestrial.
“I had a very brief meeting about it,” he said in the interview. “But people say they are seeing UFOs. I believe it? Not particularly. “
The government has been quietly studying the possibility of UFOs for decades, and the Pentagon previously studied recordings of aerial encounters with unknown objects as part of a classified program closed ever since at the behest of former Senator Harry Reid of Nevada. The program launched in 2007 and ended in 2012, according to the Pentagon, because they assessed that there were higher priorities that needed funding.
