The state of health of the two-year-old boy who fell eleven meters from an apartment window in Eferding on Saturday afternoon is stable, according to the police.

However, the toddler suffered serious injuries in the accident. The children’s hospital in Linz, to which the boy was flown by rescue helicopter after the accident, referred on Sunday to the parents’ desire not to disclose any further information.

The boy was in the apartment on Saturday with his eight-year-old brother and 34-year-old father. According to police, the father took a painkiller and went to the bedroom to rest.

The man fell asleep. Meanwhile, his two sons stayed in the living room and played on the television. When the eight-year-old went to the toilet, his younger brother must have climbed onto the sofa and opened the window.

Then he climbed onto the windowsill and fell down. The ground, softened by the downpours of the past few days, should have dampened the crash.
