Sanju Samson: From IPL Star to Rajasthan Royals Captain – A Cricket Journey

Sanju Samson has made a place in the minds of cricket fans because of his performance in the IPL rather than the national team. Currently the captain of Rajasthan Royals, he has scored over 3000 runs for the team in eight IPL seasons.

Sanju spent his childhood in Delhi and came to Kerala as a teenager. His father was a police constable in Delhi. Sanju got his first cricket lessons in his life in Delhi. He was selected for the 2011 U-19 Asia Cup but did not perform well in the tournament. He then failed to qualify for the U-19 World Cup the following year.

In 2013, Sanju was selected by Rajasthan Royals for the IPL. He was only 18 years old then. But they kept it even though the team was banned for two years from participating in the competition. Sanju was selected as the captain of Rajasthan Royals in 2021. He scored 484 runs for the team that year. He scored 119 off 63 balls in the match against Punjab Kings. They scored more than 40 runs in three consecutive games. He scored runs of 70 and 82 and remained unbeaten in consecutive matches. At the same time, the star was not able to produce consistent performances in the last matches of the tournament. Hence, Rajasthan Royals have fallen behind in the points table.
