At noon, a DAF trucker stopped by the roadside due to the technical condition of the tractor on the road to Tīnūži-Koknese, on the outskirts of Ogre region, and was not noticed by a minibus driver who was crashing on the highway at the time, resulting in the loss of two lives.
The container in question was full of peat and weighed more than 26 tonnes. The power with which the white minibus hit its rear was enough to move the container.

“We heard such a loud bang, a strong blow. Such an incomprehensible sound. We thought a pillow burst or a tire. A moment later we saw that the container was slipping on top of us. It is good that we were not in front of the container, otherwise we would be pressed there. The speed was great. We stood about four meters away from the container, doing our thing, trying to warm up our car. Well, and all. We just saw that the bus stuck to its tail. ”
Javers, noticing that there would be nothing good after such a powerful collision with the vehicle, did not even dare to approach the crushed bus, immediately called the responsible services and reported the serious incident.

“The mechanic approached me, said that someone else made some sounds there, but I usually don’t attend in such cases. There, I don’t even know what can be left of the person himself, absolutely nothing. The bus had a Belarusian registration number. Most likely fell asleep at the wheel. There were no traces of braking. We had an emergency triangle at the back some forty-five meters ago. The triangle stuck to the trailer at the end, and the bus pushed him here. We fulfilled all the requirements that were necessary in such a situation. There was nothing more we could do because we were human. ”
Firefighters used hydraulic tools at the scene to pull the driver and front passenger out of the wreck of the severely deformed bus. This time, the doctors had no choice but to find out the deaths of the two people, it was no longer possible to give them any help.
Further work on the highway has already been taken over by the police, investigators and inspectors are also expected to diligently inspect the crash site and record all the details. The circumstances of what happened are explained.
