Two employees stabbed at Museum of Modern Art in New York

Two people were stabbed in the well-known Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in the US city of New York after which all those who were on the premises were evacuated, according to the Police of that city.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) specified that the injured were a 24-year-old man, an employee of the institution and a 24-year-old employee.

They detailed that the perpetrator fled, so NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information John Miller explained that the attacker entered the facility with his membership pass and was denied entry because the validity date of his pass expired.

“Membership expired due to two incidents of disorderly conduct here at the museum on two separate dates in recent days. He became obsessed that they wouldn’t let him in, jumped on the front desk and attacked two museum employees, stabbing them multiple times,” he stated.

He stated that both victims are in stable condition at an area hospital as they received immediate care.

Police asked people to avoid the area where the museum is located due to the investigation.

The MoMA is the first modern art museum in the world and was opened in 1929. Its creation corresponds to the wives of three American billionaires, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Lillie P. Bliss and Mary Quinn Sullivan, who decided to exhibit the works of artists there that were not admitted to other museums in the city, reports the TeleSur portal.

After the incident, the Institution announced its closure to the public this Sunday, March 13, and announced that it would reschedule the tickets purchased by visitors.
