Twenty MLS players infected with corona ahead of Florida tournament | NOW

Twenty players and six staff members in Major League Soccer (MLS) have been tested positive for the corona virus since the beginning of this month. Two players tested positive on arrival in Orlando, where the season will be completed in tournament form from July 8.

Since June 4, when the clubs were allowed to resume group training, a total of 668 players have been tested for the COVID-19 virus. Eighteen players tested positive before leaving for Florida, the MLS reported in a statement on Sunday.

Once in Florida, the players had to undergo another test. Of the 329 players examined in Orlando, another 2 appear to be infected. They are being examined medically and must remain in their hotel for the time being.

The American football league has been standing still since March because of the corona crisis. Earlier this month, it was announced that the MLS will be completed at Walt Disney World in early July and not in its original form, but in a tournament format.

The 26 clubs are divided into six groups, where they can qualify for the knockout phase. The final is on August 11 and the winner qualifies for the CONCACAF Champions League.

With Frank de Boer (Atlanta United) and Jaap Stam (FC Cincinnati), two Dutch trainers are active in the MLS. Stam was appointed in May and has yet to lead his first game as a coach. The two Dutch coaches are classified in the same pool.
