Tunisia had no choice. Beaten by Namibia (0-1) then hung by Mali (1-1), it absolutely had to beat South Africa to continue its journey in this CAN and thus see the round of 16. It’s a failure (0-0). Unable to make an impact despite the tenure of Seifeddine Jaziri, the selection of Jalel Kadri was far too timid in the game, before missing a huge opportunity on a header from Haythem Jouini (89th).
Despite this opportunity, the Tunisians could also have been punished in the last quarter of an hour by Bafana Bafana, who had several opportunities to open the scoring. With two points, without the slightest success on the clock, the Tunisians therefore imitated the Algerians by also leaving this CAN prematurely.
Big first for Namibia
At least a quarter-finalist in the four previous editions of the competition, present at the 2022 World Cup, the 2004 winner therefore comes out in the first round of this event decidedly full of surprises.
In the other meeting of the day in Group E, Mali and Namibia also separated with a goalless score (0-0). Result: Mali finished first in group E, and will be accompanied in the round of 16 by South Africa (2nd) and Namibia (3rd), a great first for the Namibians.
