Trump vineyard is eligible for federal bailout funds

Washington – The President’s Vineyard Donald trump in Virginia may be eligible for a federal bailout under the $ 2.2 trillion economic stimulus that the president himself signed last month, despite provisions in the law that Democrats say were aimed at preventing him and his family from personally benefiting .

Buried in the fine print of the law passed by Congress to try to prevent an economic collapse are terms that would make the vineyard eligible to receive part of the aid extended to grape growers and producers of “special crops,” including grapes used to wine making.

There is no indication that the Trump companies, which are currently operated by his children, are going to apply for the aid, and a company representative said Friday that there are no plans to do so.

The White House declined to comment, but last month Trump declined to rule out the possibility.

“We will see what happens, because we have to save some of those big companies,” he said March 22 to a specific question during a press conference on whether their companies will give up aid.

Trump’s business interests have come under intense scrutiny from the moment he decided that, unlike previous presidents, he would not dispense with their participation in them or place them in trust during his presidency.

Employees, bureaucrats, and federal government officials are prohibited by laws and regulations that were created to prevent them from profiting from their positions. However, many of those restrictions do not apply to the president, including clauses that are intended to limit conflicts of interest.

After Trump declined to say whether his companies would request financial support, Democrats negotiated adding restrictions to the stimulus law – before it was passed by Congress – that would prevent the president and his family from personally benefiting.

Trump Winery’s control is not entirely clear. The President has said on several occasions that it is his property and his 2019 conflict of interest declaration revealed income from the hotel in the vineyards and their rent. The statement also stipulates that Trump-controlled companies own Trump Vineyard Estates LLC.

However, a statement from the vineyard website indicates that Trump Winery is a registered trade name of a company controlled by Eric, Trump’s son, “who is not owned, operated, or affiliated with Donald J. Trump or any of its associates ”.
