Washington.- President Donald Trump plans to travel to the United States border with Mexico next Tuesday to enhance his administration’s work related to the border wall, the White House reported on Saturday.
Trump will visit the town of Alamo, Texas. The president seeks to enhance the completion of nearly 400 miles (644 kilometers) of border wall and his administration’s actions to reform what the White House described as the country’s broken immigration system.
Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign largely focused on the president’s desire to build a border wall. He had also said that Mexico would pay for the wall, but the bill was covered by US taxpayers.
Although most of the wall was erected in areas that had lower barriers, the government has built hundreds of kilometers of 30-foot-high fences in a short time, most of it this year.
The government prioritized areas where the wall could be built more quickly and crews blew up explosive hills and razed sensitive habitats in national wildlife refuges as well as American Indian lands to build it.
The visit is possibly the president’s first public presentation since he addressed a message to his supporters last Wednesday, who, in disgust, later staged a violent siege of the United States Capitol. Trump aims to enhance the achievements of his presidency as it comes to an end.
For their part, the Democrats in the House of Representatives are promoting a vote for next week tending to oust the president. They plan to formally present their proposal for a possible vote on Wednesday.
