Geotourism focuses on the natural and cultural heritage of an area. It is also a sustainable tourism model that seeks to educate visitors about the importance of environmental protection and geological factors.
Khalid Al Hosani, Director of Geology and Mineral Resources at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Development, said the UAE is geologically rich with high mountains, valleys, beautiful coastlines and sand dunes.
Geotourism offers a great opportunity for visitors to learn about the ancient irrigation systems of Al Aflaj, the world’s largest ever-changing sand dunes in the eastern highlands of the UAE, massive mountains that are home to fossils and minerals, and coastal areas rich in coral reefs and mangroves.
Adventure activities like hiking, camping and rock climbing are also a part of geotourism. UAE to promote geotourism as a way to raise awareness of landscape Khalid Al Hosani also stated that the government will remain committed.
