Trump said the US recognizes the Antifa movement as a terrorist organization – International panorama

WASHINGTON, May 31. / TASS /. The United States authorities intend to include the Antifa movement of American antifascists on the list of terrorist organizations. This was announced by President Donald Trump on Sunday in his Twitter.

“The United States will make” Antifa ” [в список] terrorist organizations, “he wrote.

A day earlier, Trump blamed Antifa and other radical left groups for riots and incidents of violence during recent protests throughout the country over the death of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In July last year, Trump has already stated that his administration is considering the possibility of recognizing the movement as a terrorist organization. “Antifa” in the United States is not a single centralized organization, this term is used to refer to all anti-fascists.

This week, a video appeared on the Internet of the May 25 detention in Minneapolis of George Floyd suspected of using counterfeit bills. White cops handcuffed an African American and knocked him onto the road. One of them pressed the detainee with a knee on his neck, ignoring Floyd’s cries that he could not breathe, and soon an African-American died in one of the hospitals in the city. On May 26, all four law enforcement officers were fired, one of them was taken into custody on charges of manslaughter.

Protests that broke out earlier this week in Minneapolis spread by Saturday evening to several dozen major American cities, growing into riots. Federal and local authorities are urgently trying to pacify the demonstrators by addressing them in every possible way, imposing a curfew and involving the US National Guard to help the police. According to the Associated Press, nearly 1.7 thousand people have been detained during the protests over the past three days.
