Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Due to years of sexual abuse of children, the trial of a former youth coach of soccer teams has started before the Freiburg Regional Court. The 31-year-old German has committed at least 21 cases of boys, said Attorney General Eckart Berger at the start of the trial on Tuesday. In addition to a prison sentence, preventive detention is possible. The accused has had a sexual interest in male children since his youth. This poses a danger to the general public.
According to the indictment, the acts took place between 2007 and 2018. The victims of the crimes were then 9 to 14 years old. The man got to know her in the various children’s and youth soccer teams that he coached. He trained teams in Freiburg and Karlsruhe until 2019.
The acts occurred, among other things, in training camps for the teams, said the prosecutor. In addition, the man in a changing room of the team in Karlsruhe is said to have taken photos of naked children with his cell phone camera hidden there.
The public was excluded for large parts of the process. The court cited the protection of the defendant’s personal rights as the reason. This said on Tuesday about himself and the allegations, confirmed his lawyer. He gave no further information.
Investigators came on the trail of the man after a tip from US authorities. They had discovered files with child pornos that he had put online. The man was arrested in Freiburg and has been in custody since then. The police reportedly found more than 2,000 child porn files in his home.
The process continues. According to the court, five trial days are initially planned. A judgment could therefore be given in early July (Az .: 6 KLs 100 Js 38980/18).
