“Yes, I am trans and I want to share my story. But I’m also Rikkie and that matters to me,” added the beauty queen, who was born a male.
At the same time, Rikkie Valerie said that she sees the competition as empowering women. “When I was little Rik and I came out as transgender, it wasn’t easy for everyone. I suffered too,” she told pro Daily Mail.
Transwomen in the competition will probably increase. The Miss Universe organization has been bought by Thai business magnate Anne Jakrajutatip, who is also transgender, US media organizations have reported NPR.
“I would like to thank the jury and everyone from the Miss Netherlands team for their trust, this is only the beginning,” said the winner of Miss Netherlands for Metro Weekly.
