Transmission by air. US Disease Control Center published warning by mistake

“A draft version with proposed changes to the recommendations [do CDC sobre o novo coronavírus] was published by mistake in website agency officer ”on Friday, Deputy Director Jay Butler clarified, adding that this version had not undergone any technical review.

This “failure of the CDC” is being discussed by the agency so that it will not be repeated, Butler assured the Washington Post. “This cannot happen again.”

The document now withdrawn by the CDC recommended the general population to use air purifiers to reduce the circulation of germs and thus prevent Covid-19 from spreading in closed spaces.

According to agency guidelines, the new coronavirus could be carried in the air by small particles, known as aerosols, which can remain suspended and move up to two meters away.

Prior to mistakenly publishing these guidelines, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention only referred to the transmission of the virus from person to person through droplets in the airways.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said, in turn, be monitoring “new evidence” about the possible transmission of the new coronavirus over the air. Even so, this Monday a member of that entity assured that the policy on aerosol transmission has not been changed.

Since it was first detected in December last year, the new coronavirus has infected more than 31 million people, of whom almost one million are fatal victims. Of the total infected, more than 21 million have already been reported as recovered.
