Traffic controller almost shoveled, taken meters long on the hood

A traffic controller was almost kicked by an impatient motorist in Eindhoven on Saturday evening. The traffic controller jumped on the hood himself to avoid a collision. This happened around half past ten in the Sumatralaan, after the city festival Bondgenoten.

The driver noticed the traffic warden as the driver tried to squeeze through the crowd. He also drove on a bike path. Several people spoke to the driver about his driving behaviour.

On the hood
The traffic controller gave the driver a stop sign, but he ignored it. The motorist then drove through the berm towards the roadway, where many people who had visited the festival were walking. The traffic controller then stood in front of the car to prevent an accident.

After the stream of people had passed by, the driver gave full throttle. The traffic controller had to jump on the hood to avoid being shoveled. He stayed on this for about fifteen meters.

Detention
When the car made a turn, the traffic controller fell off the hood. The driver then continued to drive at high speed. According to a police spokesperson, the traffic controller was “extremely shocked”. He was checked on the spot by nursing staff. “Fortunately, he did not suffer any serious injuries, but he does experience a lot of physical discomfort,” the spokesperson said. “This could have been much more serious.”

On the basis of witness statements, the police traced the driver of the car. He was arrested at home later that evening. It concerns a 27-year-old man from Eindhoven.

Witness call
Police would like to get in touch with people who saw what happened. “These statements are very important to clarify the facts and circumstances.”
