The self-employed in the trade earn less than the self-employed in other industries. Their average income was 30,000 euros in 2018, reports the Central Bureau of Statistics.
In 2018 there were 1.3 million self-employed people in the Netherlands, including many freelancers. That is 260,000 more than in 2007.
Most self-employed persons in the trade are active in the car industry (for example as a mechanic), or work as a mail delivery person or at a web store. Within the trade, self-employed pharmacists earn the most and self-employed workers in the textile industry the least.
Business services
In 2007, most of the self-employed were still active in the trade, nowadays that leading position is in the hands of business services.
Business services are also the industry in which self-employed people earn the most. The average income in that sector is 45,000 euros.
