A group of ghost-driving farmers created a dangerous situation on the A7 between Heerenveen and Drachten last night.

The farmers first drove slowly in their tractors on the right side of the road at Tjalleberd in the direction of Heerenveen, the police reported. When they encountered a police blockade, they turned around and drove the other way on the same side of the road. When they saw police cars again a little further on, they drove around it via the berm and left the highway at Tijnje around 11 p.m.

According to a spokesperson for the Northern Netherlands police, the agents who tried to force the farmers to stop were not in immediate danger. “But driving a tractor on the highway is of course already dangerous. And all the more against traffic.”
