Already on Thursday night, a “tropical night” (20 degrees Celsius and more) made it difficult for people in large parts of central Germany to get to sleep. According to MDR meteorologist Heidermann, the nightly heat record was 24 degrees in Kubschütz in the Bautzen district. But also on that hunk, the Kleiner Inselsberg and the Schmücke in the Thuringian Forest, “tropical nights” were achieved with 20 degrees Celsius. The coldest place was Marienberg-Kühnheide in the Saxon Ore Mountains, where 9 degrees Celsius were measured on Thursday night.
