Jakarta

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota India are working together to make a medium SUV with a hybrid engine. The two cars from this collaboration will have slightly different specifications, where the Suzuki SUV will be powered by a mild hybrid engine, while the Toyota SUV will have a more powerful hybrid engine.

Quoted from the page CartToyota’s newest medium SUV is scheduled to launch on July 1, 2022. From the spy shots captured during the TVC video shooting session, this car will have a design more or less like the Toyota Urban Cruiser, but with the name Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Meanwhile, for Suzuki, their newest medium SUV will be named the Maruti Vitara. There is no definite launch date yet, but it is certain that this car will both be launched in July 2022 as well.

Talking about the engine, these two cars will most likely carry a 1.5-liter K15C petrol engine. This engine was developed by Maruti Suzuki and is used by both of these SUVs. The engine is expected to come with a choice of 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

These two medium SUVs with a 5-seater capacity will share comfort and safety features. Starting from the ventilated seats, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, ABS, Airbags, and other safety features.

Both SUVs will be produced by Toyota at their second factory in Bidadi, Karnataka. Although produced in one factory, the Suzuki version is expected to have a different exterior design.

Oh yes, just for information, the alliance between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki in India was formed in 2017. Since then, the two Japanese brands have shared product platforms with each other. Examples include the Suzuki Baleno Hatchback, which was rebranded as the Toyota Glanza and Starlet.

Then there is the low MPV Suzuki Ertiga which has been re-polished into a Toyota Rumion and sold in Africa. Meanwhile, from Toyota itself, the Urban Cruiser SUV was rebranded as the Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

So, if the Toyota and Suzuki collaboration medium SUV is launched, it will challenge several competitors, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, to the Volkswagen Taigun.
