The General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, headed by Juan Guerrero, and the Attorney General’s Office (PGN), headed by Julio Saavedra, presented this Thursday, February 29, a legal action against the attorney general and head of the Ministry Public (MP), Consuelo Porras. This refers to a request for withdrawal of pretrial proceedings for the possible commission of the crime of breach of duties.

The officials of the aforementioned entities went to the second level of the Court Tower, at 10:00 a.m., to carry out the respective procedure. Given this, it is sought that the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) initiate the process to strip the head of the Public Ministry (MP) of her immunity for having refused to participate in the summons of the Government Cabinet Board that President Arévalo He did it on January 29th.

His presence at the Board last month was considered necessary for him to participate in the deliberation of State issues. “Given this, it is an obligation that the prosecutor failed to fulfill with her abrupt departure, for that reason and with instructions from the President of the Republic and as attorney, I have filed a criminal complaint and a request for a pretrial. In due course, the courts must assess the petition and order the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the implications of the refusal,” Saavedra highlighted.

Yesterday, during the presentation of the National Commission against Corruption, Commissioner Santiago Palomo, accompanied by the team that makes up the Commission, gave a press conference. In this regard, the media questioned him that Palomo has been emphatic in his position regarding the prosecutor and has mentioned that he is going to work with actors who are in the fight against corruption.

In this regard, Palomo responded that he will work with all actors who are committed to the fight against corruption. Regarding the coordination of both agencies, he emphasized that efforts are being made so that the entity in charge of the criminal investigation fulfills its duty: investigate the facts and reach the ultimate consequences in accordance with its mandate.
