Tinkebell Forced to Retract Allegations Against Former PvdA Politician Gijs van Dijk by Court Order

Former politician Gijs van Dijk in court during the summary proceedings

NOS News

Artist Katinka Simonse, known as Tinkebell, has to take back allegations about ex-PvdA politician Gijs van Dijk. This was recently decided by the court in preliminary relief proceedings brought by Van Dijk.

Tinkebell had in the NPO Radio 1 program Misha! said that the former MP had assaulted a woman “by hugging her roughly”. She also speculated about a new job and an amount of 350,000 euros that Van Dijk would have been offered by the PvdA party. According to the artist, he would also have had a relationship with PvdA leader Attje Kuiken.

The court says that Simonse’s claims are “not supported by the facts”, and that they damage Van Dijk’s reputation and personal and professional life. Tinkebell must post a correction on her Twitter account that must be visible for two weeks. She is not allowed to tweet for two hours after posting. There will also be a penalty if the artist again makes such accusations against Van Dijk.

Research conducted carelessly

Van Dijk left the PvdA party under pressure from then PvdA leader Lilliane Ploumen in February 2022 and gave up his membership of parliament after reports of inappropriate behaviour. Simonse is one of the women who had sounded the alarm about Van Dijk’s alleged behavior. She previously had a brief relationship with him.

The PvdA commissioned an independent investigation into the member of parliament, but later had to admit that the investigation had been careless “at various times”. The report was never made public. The party did apologize to Van Dijk and he received compensation.
