The leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said that she did not intend to recognize the referendum scheduled for February to amend the Constitution of Belarus and try to win over officials and security officials to the side of the opposition, reports on Friday, December 17, Radio Liberty.

“241 public organizations and 40 media outlets have been closed. The regime has initiated more than 4500 politically motivated criminal cases, 929 people have been recognized as political prisoners,” Tikhanovskaya summed up the results of the outgoing year.
However, the oppositionist hopes that in 2022 the “democratic” forces will be more fortunate. Tikhanovskaya intends not to recognize the referendum on changing the Constitution of Belarus, recently appointed by Alexander Lukashenko for February, and also to try to win over the opposition officials and security officials.
“2022 will be the year when it is necessary to regroup, build stability and begin the process of democratization,” she said.
Other plans of the Belarusian opposition include supporting samizdat and platforms of solidarity with those who were forced to leave the country.
