Thuringia’s Tonna prison faces shortage of officers despite new candidate courses

Thuringia’s Tonna correctional facility (JVA) is running out of prison officers, said staff councils during a visit by Justice Minister Doreen Denstädt (Greens).

Although there are currently candidate courses from which 40 new law enforcement officers will emerge by the end of the year, this is not enough, according to the JVA.

Officials should be promoted faster

According to Minister of Justice Denstädt, a wave of retirements is coming to Thuringia’s prisons. In order to make the service in the JVAs more attractive, the state government wants to promote prison officers to higher salary levels more quickly, said Dehnstädt MDR THÜRINGEN.
