Terror and panic again in Turkey and Syria. Two new strong earthquakes shook the areas that were also most affected by the previous strong tremors on February 6. The first quake had a magnitude of 6.4, and the second – 5.8.
The epicenter was near the city of Defne, near Antakya in Hatay province. According to the latest data there are three victims and over 200 injured from these latest earthquakes.
Tremors were felt both throughout southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, as well as in neighboring Lebanon and even Egypt.
8:04 pm. The earth shakes again in the already destroyed cities. Three minutes later – another strong tremor. Panicked people run from their homes or the tents they are staying in and look for each other in the darkness.
The authorities remobilized all rescue teams to help the population. A warning has also been issued not to stand on the seashore due to the danger of a tidal wave of up to half a meter.
Earlier in the day, the search for survivors was suspended in 9 of the 11 provinces affected by the previous series of tremors. According to the latest data, the total number of dead in Turkey and Syria is over 47 thousand people.
Exactly two weeks after the great earthquakes on February 6, the people of the affected cities continue to live in constant fear. However, today’s earthquake is the strongest of the thousands of aftershocks they have experienced.

People whose homes have not collapsed will face this night outdoors in their cars or in tents in the camps. Those who have been homeless for 14 days now say that all they have left is the horror of the tremors and that they are getting no help from anywhere.
We contacted a family that this time fell into the very epicenter of the earthquake – in the city of Samandag. Sinan Saglamtash has been living with his relatives on the street for two weeks now, they are experiencing the earthquake tonight as well. Here’s what he told bTV:
– It was 6.4. Hit twice very hard.
– How are you right now?
– It is dangerous, we are not well. Everything is nightmarish and getting nightmarish. Another 20 people are said to have died in Hatay. A nightmare.
The tremors in Hatay are also strongly felt in the affected cities, such as Gaziantep:
“Very cool and it was long, 30 seconds. I thought it would be like last time, we are not calm yet,” shared Zhanna Okukju.
People whose homes remained safe are out again tonight.
“I’m at home, I didn’t go out because I live on the first floor, those people are all out of fear, they’ll probably sleep in the cars again. The professors say that it can happen again at this level something in Adana. It is expected there, because it happened in Kahramanmaras, it happened in Hatay, and now they are waiting for another one around 6 in Adana. I hope it doesn’t happen,” Zhanna Okukju added.
People in Adana have also left their homes.
“We are on the street, we have driven the cars, we are afraid to go inside, it felt very strong, it shook a lot. We were scared, we don’t have much information, but now we hear that two or three blocks have collapsed in Adana, injured, ambulances can be heard,” said Ibrahim Yalmaz.
