“This RTL series is complete bullshit”

RTL jumps on the hype about opulent costume series and shows the miniseries “Sisi”. This has little in common with the classic from the fifties. Part of the audience complains about historical errors.

The RTL “Sisi” has little to do with Romy Schneider’s “Sissi” of the 1950s. In the very first scene she lies in bed and pleasures herself and in later episodes the imperial couple is shown mating for minutes. But do the fans like what they saw on free TV for the first time on Tuesday evening?

The 25-year-old Swiss Dominique Devenport embodies the legendary Elisabeth in Bavaria, who became Elisabeth of Austria and later Austria-Hungary and is now commonly known as Sissi – historically correct: Sisi. The 29-year-old Jannik Schümann mimes Emperor Franz Joseph.

There is no dialect or Austrian singsong. There is also no zither taken out or just walked in the forest – hoop skirts are raised, there is fighting, fighting on the battlefield, intriguing at court, being angry in the family, there are mistresses and in places it is also very brutal and sexual.

“I think you did something wrong, RTL”

“The world is not yet ready for a sexy Sisi,” writes a user on Twitter. One person explains, “My wife, Sisi-holic, would rather watch something else. I think you did something wrong, RTL.”

Another user notes that there are numerous errors to be found in the miniseries. She writes: “I can’t tweet all the mistakes. The historical expert advice on this production was either incredibly bad or was consistently ignored.” Another person agrees: “All the titles in ‘Sisi’ are wrong. Daughters of dukes are princesses and not duchesses. And the emperor’s mother is not majesty, but as archduchess she is imperial highness. My goodness, is that researches amateurishly. “

“Mendacious and stupid to portray it differently”

One viewer explains: “I switched before the first commercial. Very bad cast. People of today play characters from today in old clothes. A lot of historical mistakes. High German doesn’t fit either. The color filter that was placed over it is annoying, not historical. Pity.” This tweet can also be found: “This RTL series is complete nonsense. Back then, young women had ZERO rights. It is hypocritical and stupid to portray it differently. Even if you would like to see it differently from today’s perspective.”

But there are also positive voices. So someone emphasizes on Twitter: “Sometimes a slightly different ‘Sisi’. I like it. I’ll definitely keep watching.” Also read: “I’m not a ‘Sisi’ fan at all, but I think this version is better than this eternal Sisi and Franz fuss from the Schmalz films.”

RTL shows the six-part mini-series in double episodes on three evenings in a row at 8:15 p.m. It all started on Tuesday, December 28th. A continuation has already been decided. The first season only tells about the 1850s and 1860s. The real Sisi was the victim of an assassination attempt in Geneva in 1898, her son and the Emperor Rudolf, who were depressed, committed suicide in 1889.
