This is why you should definitely have Meltan in Pokémon GO right now.

One monster stands out in Pokémon GO this month and it’s unlikely that many trainers have it on screen yet: Meltan! We will tell you why the mysterious monster is the Pokémon of the month this time around.

Why is Meltan so important right now? The mysterious Pokémon Meltan is currently benefiting from a change that was only decided this month: more XL Candy for Legendary and Mystery Pokémon.

You can earn up to 6 XL candies per Meltan plus the 3 regular candies. Since you get Meltan in a wonderful box anyway, which means you can always get at least 60 Meltan, you can get tons of XL candy in no time.

If things go really well, you can collect enough Candy and XL Candy with just 2 Wonderful Boxes to get Meltan from Level 1 to Level 50. However, keep in mind that you can only get XL Candy from Level 40 onwards. that, there are only normal sweets.

This is Meltan’s story: The mysterious Pokémon first appeared in Pokémon GO in 2018. Back then, it appeared in piles on Community Day with endives right after the event. At the time he still transformed into Ditto, but a little later Niantic officially introduced Meltan.

Meltan comes from the eighth generation and was supposed to make the connection between Pokémon GO and the then new Let’s GO games.

How do you get Meltan? The mysterious Pokémon appears once through a special investigation. After that, you just get it in a wonderful box. There are currently 2 ways:

  • Exchange a Pokémon GO monster for the Switch Let’s GO game, Eevee / Pikachu
  • You connect to the new Pokémon Home cloud service. If you interact there, there is also a box of wonders for Meltan.
  • All the steps on how to connect your Pokémon GO to Home for free and receive the Meltan-Box

The wonder box works similar to a smoke. When you use them, a kind of smoke circulates around you that attracts Meltan for an hour. No other Pokémon are attracted to it, so you can catch Meltan for the 60 minutes in a relaxed manner.

If you don’t have a Pokémon Home or the Switch Let’s GO game, Eevee / Pikachu, you can also connect to a friend’s Switch game. There you also have to transfer a Pokémon to receive the box of wonders.

This is how it was for me this month: Immediately after the switch to the XL candy, I activated a miracle box myself. I got a total of 6 XL candies with each Meltan. As a result, after just one wonderful box, I have a proud 360 XL of candy. More than enough to bring Melmetal’s development to level 50.

If I compare that to other Pokémon and the chances of winning XL candies there, that’s a huge difference. Here I have to catch hundreds of monsters of a type to get enough XL candies. The hour spent in Meltan cannot be compared to this.

Meltan is drawn to the box of wonders – I recently dusted off a bunch of XL candies.

Do you even need Meltan? Meltan can evolve into Melmetal, making it a very strong Pokémon. Melmetal is especially useful in the PvP league and can also be used against rocket bosses with the proper attacks.

In raids, however, there are better alternatives to Melmetal. But you can also use it quite well as a defender of the arena. There, a specimen at level 50 is slightly stronger and can take more damage.

What else is happening this month? Regardless of Meltan, there is currently a lot to discover in Pokémon GO. In March, you can look forward to new highlights, events, raids, and featured lessons. A detailed plan of all the events and which ones are worthwhile can be found here:
