This 1,500-Year-Old Ancient Tomb Proves True Love Exists

Archaeologists discovered the tomb in June 2020 during excavations of a grave that had been opened during construction work in Shanxi province. The cemetery contains about 600 burials from the Xianbei, an ancient nomadic group in northern China who assimilated into Han Chinese culture.

From the remains of ceramic items in the area grave It is known that this cemetery dates back to the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534 AD).

Because the couple’s burial was unique, archaeologists decided not to excavate the skeletal remains completely. Instead, the team let them intertwine so that the two could be displayed at the museum exhibit.

“Archeologists found two other couples buried together in the same grave; but this couple didn’t hug tightly, and the women weren’t wearing rings, Wang said.

Excavations of this tomb reveal much about the lovers. The man is about 161.5cm tall and suffered multiple injuries, including a broken arm, part of a missing finger on his right hand and a bone spur on his right leg. He likely died between the ages of 29 and 35, the researchers said.
