Thirteen dead from panic after police intervention in banned …

At least thirteen people attending a banned party in Peru were killed after panic broke out when police intervened. The Ministry of the Interior has announced this.

The police had been informed by neighbors that despite the corona measures, a big party was still going on in a classroom on the outskirts of the capital Lima. There were about 120 people partying.

When the officers arrived on the scene, the revelers tried to flee through the only exit. Many became trapped or trampled on. At least thirteen people died, including the owner of the club. A further six people, including three officers, were injured. 23 people were arrested.

The ministry denies reports that the police have sprayed tear gas into the room, causing people to suffocate.
