“THEY LOOK LIKE THE LIGHT” – Hundreds of protesters call for resignation of JCE judges

Dressed in blacks and with phrases like “we live in a dictatorship disguised as democracy”, “We let them do fraud the last time” and “for the investment of the people, who responds?”, Hundreds of citizens protested in front of the Central Board building Electoral, against the suspension of elections.

The protest was called in front of the Plaza de la Bandera, where the young people also shouted: “they go like the light”, “it is out that they go” and “too tired”, shouted the choirs asking for the resignation of the full Board .

Accompanied by drums, güiras and improvised instruments, the participants also managed to get the attention of influencer and artists such as Riccie Oriach and Melymel, who at all times kept shouting fighting phrases.

The Protestants booed the members of the JCE, who after a meeting with representatives of the OAS, had to be escorted from the premises.

What did the Protestants ask for?

Citizens called for the resignation of the plenary session of the Board, as well as removing the official Dominican Liberation Party from power.

“The first thing we want is for the full Board to resign, we want elections with a new management,” said one of the Protestants.

“My partner and I are Spanish and we came to defend democracy in general and the right to something as basic as voting in elections, not even in Spain that is full of corrupt people, this happens,” said a Spanish citizen who also protested accompanying To the Dominicans.

“I demand democracy, what happened yesterday cannot be possible, 15,000,000,000 pesos invested in these elections so that at 11:00 in the morning they say they are suspended, it is known to be a fraud, they did it in elementary school and they did it again, ”said a young woman with a voice and a face of indignation.

A man who was on the march with his family, also asked to investigate what happened in the elections and the fate of the money used for them, “I demand that a thorough investigation be made of what has happened with the elections , because it is not possible that the money of us, which we pay with our taxes, will end up in unknown hands, here there was a crime against Dominican democracy, resignation of the judges and their substitutes, that money must have been destined to education, health and justice and now it does not appear ”.

On two occasions the lights of the Plaza de la Bandera went out, which motivated the crowd to raise their voices, light candles, and even sing the notes of the national anthem.

“The Chain of the Homeland” is what they called the action of holding hands around the Plaza de la Bandera, to represent the union of the people in this situation of electoral crisis.

It was still 9:00 at night and citizens remained with the same energies demanding an explanation for the failure of the equipment used last Sunday in the municipal elections that were suspended by the Central Electoral Board.
