For years, Belozem has been known as the European White Stork Village, with about 40 nesting pairs arriving there each spring.
The first shot animal found in the village was immediately taken to the rescue center of Green Balkans in Stara Zagora, but died a little later. Specialists see a large shotgun in his body. The second stork was found in the school yard, where there are the most bird nests. It was pierced with two smaller bullets. A child from the village also reported a third stork killed near the stadium.
“It is possible that these birds were shot somewhere in the field and flew, for example, to the school yard, because I do not believe anyone would go with a rifle on the main street of the village or in the school yard,” said the secretary of the school. the community center in the village of Elena Uzunova in front of BNT.
People in Belozem demand a quick understanding of who and why is killing storks in the European White Stork Village.
“It’s like killing a man, the animal that gave him life,” said a villager.
“To kill a stork is unacceptable, I don’t believe there are such people, how will they kill these animals,” a resident commented.
“Almost everyone has an air rifle, as they say, and anyone can have fired it,” said a third.
